Chemitec got the latest news from the current research and development prospects in the chemical, bio-economy and mineral economy sectors by participating the Kokkola Material Week November 9-12, 2020. The virtual conference gathered speakers and participants from all over the world including some of the key industrial players in the mineral, mining, and battery industry, such as Anglo American Sakatti Mining Oy, Boliden Kokkola Oy, Geological Survey of Finland, Keliber Oy, Natural Resources Institute Finland, Tikomet, and Wärtsilä. In addition, the conference had a strong emphasis on circular economy and biochemistry introducing companies and research institutes active in this field. All that very well fit Chemitec’s competence!
To mention few examples of Finnish innovations presented at the conference were refining used alkali batteries to make a biofertilizer (Tracegrow) and recycling nutrients by modern processing of animal-based food sidestreams (Honkajoki Oy). Also, Oulu University presented very interesting studies on new options for nutrient recovery by using adsorption and electrochemical precipitation. With close cooperation with various companies they had also studied waste recycling and sludge based fertilizers.
